Once a Buildots digital twin is live, it needs to evolve as the project evolves. Site conditions change. Designs shift. Schedules get updated. This section explains how Buildots keeps the system aligned with reality throughout the lifecycle of the project.
All changes — whether planned or unexpected — go through a controlled update process to ensure stability, accuracy, and continuity of tracking.
Schedule Updates
Project schedules are updated regularly to reflect shifting timelines or plan adjustments. These updates are always initiated by the project team — by uploading a new version through the Schedule Management page in the Configuration Center.
When a new version of the schedule is received:
Buildots compares it to the previous version using automated tools and expert review to understand what changed.
If needed, mapping is updated to preserve consistency and prevent tracking errors.
If the structure of the schedule changes significantly, Buildots may request clarification or additional information before applying the update.
This process ensures that the system reflects current planning without losing continuity.
System Design Change Requests
Sometimes, clients ask to adjust how the system is structured to better reflect how the work is organized. Requests can be submitted at any time by reaching out to your Construction Solution Manager or Customer Success contact — whether by email or during a meeting — to request changes to the system. You can also submit a support request directly through the system. In some cases, your Construction Solution Manager may follow up after the request is reviewed if additional input is needed to move forward.
Each request is reviewed by a Buildots expert to ensure it can be applied without affecting the accuracy of progress data.
If approved, the change is implemented while keeping the history and logic of previous data intact.
Managing the System Independently
Once the system is set up, day-to-day changes can be handled directly by the project team using the Configuration Center. This improves alignment, and gives users greater control over how Buildots reflects their reality.
These changes, for example, do not require any support from Buildots:
Rename activities or trades to match on-site language
View activity details, including linked element types, quantities, trade, and segments
See which models are linked to each activity via the Model Management page
Track and upload schedule versions, and view how each update affected progress
Review when models or schedules were last updated, and understand their impact
This list will continue to grow — for the most up-to-date capabilities, check the Configuration Center.
These tools are designed to give the project team full visibility and flexibility — while still preserving data accuracy and system logic.
Buildots only needs to get involved when a technical change is required (e.g. new tracking area, or large design changes).
Why This Matters
Construction projects change fast. Without a plan to handle those changes, digital tools can quickly become outdated or misleading.
Buildots’ approach to ongoing updates ensures:
Stability – Changes are reviewed, validated, and applied carefully.
Accuracy – Tracking logic adjusts to reflect the current state of the project.
Trust – The system continues to show the right information, even when the project shifts direction.
By treating updates as part of the core system flow, Buildots keeps the digital twin alive, accurate, and ready to support day-to-day decisions.
